Cover Girl has never been my absolute favorite mascara brand, but it’s never really disappointed me, either. Until Flamed Out. The color is about the only thing I like about it.

I was able to get it in Very Black, and it is that. One other thing I like about it, actually, is that it isn’t difficult to open the tube (anybody else have that problem with LashBlast?).

Beyond those two perks, this mascara’s kind of a disaster. The formula’s not quite as wet as Maybelline’s Great Lash, but it’s close. Every time I pull the wand from the tube, there’s a huge glob on the end that, if I didn’t wipe it off, would smudge onto the inner part of my eye/nose and take who knows how long to remove.

I’ve never had to wipe the tip of a brush off more than once, but this one needs it at least twice before I can use it.

The brush is curvy and full. It looks like a good idea. I don’t see the purpose of the curve; usually that’s to ensure that you get every lash and to curl your lashes, but it just doesn’t happen with this. The brush doesn’t taper at the end, so it’s not particularly good at getting those inner lashes, and I haven’t noticed any curl whatsoever.

The formula is supposedly a volumizing one, but it makes my lashes look longer, skinnier, and slightly clumpy. There’s a boost in the volume, for sure, but it’s not remarkable and there are too many other issues with the way it makes my lashes look to even give the amount of volume I get from it a second thought.

I’m not impressed at all. I’ll try to use the tube until it dries out or I get way too frustrated to bother anymore, then I’m throwing it away and never buying another tube of this.
